Road Trip: A Waterstraut Promise, Fulfilled

I'm not entirely sure what illness we caught on our trip up north. We tested negative for covid, though turns out a bunch of my cousins ended up with it as well, so we must have all swapped germs during the eclipse party. Whatever the case may be, by the time we were at our AirBnb in Southern Michigan, Asa and I both had a nasty cough. So much so, we were keeping each other awake at night coughing. So, I made the executive decision to sleep in different rooms at the AirBnb to try and get some good nights rest and get better ASAP. I ended up on this giant puff thing in the living room, which was nice. By day we could snuggle in and watch TV in front of the fireplace, but night I could sleep by the open window (one of my favorite things about up north). It had gotten a bit warmer for us, which was nice- but still comfortable enough weather to use the hot tub, which super helped with our stuffiness. We got in and out of that hot tub SO MANY TIMES. Asa did student calls, we cooked meals (from Earls Meat Market), grilled out, sat by the river with all our remaining snacks, had coffee outside at the cute little hanging chairs, played games, hunted for firewood, and relaxed. It was a really nice two days, I just wish we had felt a bit better. By the time we headed south on Thursday, though, we were improved. We did do a drive by in Hudson, Michigan on our way out- and it was way different than I remembered, though I had only been there a few times. Asa, of course, grew up there, so he showed me his schools and stuff I hadn't seen before. Still a tiny bit of a town- but pretty average tiny midwestern town (just a few miles from the Ohio boarder, though Asa likes to pretend Michigan is so much better).

Anyway, I'm sure I've mentioned before, that it was my niece's Senior year, and she was nearing the end of her drum line performances. The last competition was in Dayton, and she asked us to come. We issued a Waterstraut promise that we would be there (of course making it come down to the wire), so we made our way to Wright State for the competition. However, we still had our coughs and our head colds and just did not want to spread it. The Sattler's dodged a bullet by not getting sick at the eclipse party, but I was so worried about passing it on to them, especially since Gwen's 18th birthday and her prom were just days away. So while we had hoped to spend the weekend with them, we just swung through for the competition. We got to see her in what turned out to be her last performance (they didn't advance), and it was pretty amazing. I left with a fake $100, a fake wristband to get in and not have to pay like $80, and having delivered on another Waterstraut promise. Becuase, you see a Waterstraut promise is like... it's GOING to happen. We're kind of known for delivering on those.

Since we weren't stopping in Cincinnati for the weekend, we just kept heading south. I want to stay we spent the night somewhere in Tennessee, but I'm not exactly sure. We made it home the next day, and I was so excited to have some warm humid air. Though, that was months ago now- and I've give anything not to have the massively hot, uncomfortably humid air. (July and August are always just brutal).

Next up: finishing out April at home
