Road Trip: Adventuring for a Moon Pie

Our morning in Cincinnati, we woke up to a lovely treat from Holly running out to get us some donuts. And we got to see Gwen for a hot minute. You know high school seniors, they're busy people.

Gwen had a band performance that afternoon everyone was staying behind to see, but since we were going to the one that was part of the big competition, we were continuing on our way to Fremont. We asked Garrett if he wanted to tag along, since I know what it's like to be a younger sibling always dragged to band events. He was super excited, especially when he found out I had promised Asa and Calib they could go to Waffle House (mostly because they always ask, and I have no idea how many more of these trips I'll be able to get Calib to want to come on with us). We also treated Garrett to some Starbucks.

And then once we were off 75, but nearing Fremont, we let Garrett play GPS roulette- where as long as it wasn't more than 1 or 2 minutes slower, we'd let him decide if we should deviate from our path or stay on the gps path. He rather enjoyed this game, and wanted to find some real weird general store to stop by and go in. We lucked out there, so eventually we stopped at one of those little cemeteries that we're always like 'who is even buried here' (plus we taught him how to play 'church, cemetary' a favorite Ohio/up north past time of counting how many alternating you get before you end up with two in a row. Anyway, the cemetary was kind of interesting because there were quite a few REALLY old graves. The oldest guy we found pre-dated George Washington.

When we finally arrived at grandmas, Olivia had been there for about 24 hours. She flew in for the event, and as always, we were super excited to see her.
We had also gotten there just in time to do the 'Moon Walk' in downtown Fremont, where if you visited a bunch of places and got them to stamp your passport, you got a free Moon Pie. We were all in for the novelty of it, not because we wanted a Moon Pie. But we did have to hurry. We didn't have a ton of time to complete it. So, we made all way through all these real weird downtown places, and collected our moon pies in honor of the eclipse.

On our walk back to my moms, we swung by the library and nosed around. They have way too little woodworking/sewing/Makerspace areas and way too many CDs. How on earth is a 'popular' CD 98 degrees? Also, the trees at the library were pretty good for climbing, so we did that.

For dinner, we went to Chuds, because no trip to Fremont is complete without it. And then we helped mom get ready for everyone coming to her house the next couple days. She wanted to do an 'all the holidays' theme like our last party at grandmas house, so we put up some Christmas lights.

A shout out to my cousin-ish Nikki, who had been to Fremont a few days before me and left me some fun Junior Ranger books about the eclipse.

Next up: Aint no party like an Ainsworth party!
